To block the supply route, the US imperialists used all types of modern weapons and equipment to prevent the support of the Northern rear for the Southern battlefield. The enemy used aircraft and weapons to attack to prevent us from transporting goods to the battlefield. Faced with this problem, the Truong Son Command was determined to fight against that plot in many ways.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n The most active measure was to open many supporting routes near the vertical and horizontal axes, large and small bypasses to form a complete traffic system, maintaining the initiative in the transportation process. The construction of the B45A crossing deep into the West of Thua Thien – Hue at that time was extremely important and an urgent requirement.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n On the main axis of Truong Son road passing through Thua Thien – Hue province, there are many branch roads opened to serve military missions such as road 71, road 72, road 73, road 74 connecting from road B45A from Laos to Nam A Sau, A Luoi district bordering Quang Nam – Da Nang province. Thoroughly implementing the direction of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to urgently deploy the construction of road B45A in time for use in the dry season of 1967, the survey force both set up the route and made construction drawings.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n Immediately after the survey work, set up the route and made the drawings, the Command of Group 559 assigned the 29th Engineer Battalion of Station 2 to coordinate with a number of youth volunteer units and frontline workers of the Tri – Thien front to organize the construction. In addition, the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 2 Companies and the 4th Engineer Regiment – Station 42 moved to surround the enemy in Coocava, destroying hundreds of enemies, forcing them to retreat.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n “The name Con Meo slope may have been given by the people during the resistance war against the US to save the country. Currently, there are no artifacts at Con Meo slope – B45A road, but there are still some photos and personal belongings of the brothers and sisters that are still preserved and displayed in some museums at the Ho Chi Minh Trail Museum – Army Corps 12 and the Thua Thien – Hue Provincial Museum”, Ms. Them emphasized. <\/mark>The slope has an important strategic location
<\/mark><\/strong>Con Meo slope – B45A road belongs to the historical relic system of the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh road in the old Hong Van commune, now A Luoi 1 commune, Hue city. During the resistance war against America, this was a key point of fierce enemy attacks to prevent our support to the battlefields. In addition, this is also the place where we prepared the material facilities for the 1975 Spring General Offensive.
Con Meo Slope is the place that marks the events, the glorious feats, the arduous sacrifices of the forces participating in the combat, serving the combat of the 559th Truong Son Army Group, the youth volunteers, the frontline laborers\u2026 All of them steadfastly stayed to build and protect the B45A road. The focus of Con Meo Slope ensured smooth traffic during the process of supporting the Southern battlefield.
In 1966, although there was a system of vertical motor transport routes running along the Truong Son road, the transportation of goods and weapons still had to be carried by hand, unable to meet the requirements of the battlefield directions. Therefore, the opening of a motorized transport crossing to the East was determined by the Party Committee and the Command of Group 559 to be the top priority, this task was considered the focus of the 1966 plan.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, with the spirit of fighting and determination to complete the set goals, after our forces overcame many difficulties and dangers, regardless of their lives, by April 1967, the B45A route was opened, making an important contribution to the process of transporting goods, weapons and ammunition to support the South.
<\/mark>Determined to sacrifice to maintain the vital supply route for the South
<\/mark><\/strong>In March 1969, the enemy changed the method of fiercely attacking both ends, called “choking the throat and piercing the bottom”, they strongly attacked the northern military stations to prevent the establishment of reserve supplies on Route 9. At the same time, they frantically attacked the military stations adjacent to the battlefield in order to cut off the logistical supply source to disrupt our preparations for attack.
At this time, Con Meo slope was one of the key points where the enemy concentrated air force firepower to attack fiercely, day and night. Faced with that situation, to break the single line, we proactively opened a road to avoid Con Meo slope from A Tuc along Dakrong river to Doc Meo cave 2km, Tay Ko Pong 1km. Although the enemy fiercely attacked and blocked, our army and people were still determined to sacrifice to protect this strategic supply route.
At that time, the US imperialists used bombers, both carpet bombing and dive bombing, turning this place into a fireball, causing transportation routes to be blocked and trenches to collapse. Warehouses, parking lots, and military command posts were all destroyed, causing serious losses to our forces.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
